PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an alignment property and processing efficiency by aligning the reference side of an alignment means when a widthwise alignment operation of a sheet is executed. SOLUTION: This sheet alignment device includes: a staple tray 434 tentatively storing introduced sheets or a sheet bundle; and a jogger carrying out alignment in a direction orthogonal to a sheet transport direction to the sheets or the sheet bundle stored in the tray 434. The jogger is provided with a pair of jogger fences 436a and 436b moving in a direction orthogonal to the sheet transport direction, and one side of the jogger fences 436a and 436b moves in sheet alignment, and the other side thereof stops to carry out sheet alignment. Then, immediately before the start of the alignment operation in the sheet alignment, the jogger fences 436a and 436b move to a preset position adjacent to a widthwise side surface of the sheet, and causes the one-side jogger fence 436a to move from that position.
