MULTIMEDIA STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION SERVER, AND MULTIMEDIA DATA MULTIPLE READING AND WRITING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To handle multimedia data having an arbitrary rate without any waste and to make a response time as short as possible.

SOLUTION: The multimedia storage and distribution server which transmits and receives a plurality of multimedia data to and from a plurality of terminals simultaneously includes a storage (3) which stores the plurality of multimedia data; buffers (21) which temporarily store the multimedia data when the multimedia data are transmitted to and received from the terminals; a flag (24) indicating that a request newly arrives; a decision means of deciding whether the flag is set and also deciding whether the new request arrives; a counting means 1 of counting untransmission buffers from which multimedia data read out of the storage are not transmitted yet; and a means of making a read from the storage to the buffers based upon the number of counted untransmission buffers when the decision means decides that the new request arrives.
