An automatic redialing method in a portable terminal is provided to enhance the convenience of users by automatically executing redialing until a call connection is made, without the necessity of attempting a call again after completing call origination. If a destination number is inputted when the automatic redialing function of a portable terminal is in an active state(201,203), a control part attempts call origination to the destination number(205). At this moment, the control part stores the destination number in the recent call list of a memory(205). Then the control part confirms whether a ring back tone is received(207). If the ring back tone is received, the control part confirms whether a state message is received from the other party(209). If so, the control part stops call origination(211). Then the control part searches the recent call list for the destination number and transmits an origination signal again(213). However, in case a state message is not received(209), the control part confirms whether a call connection has been made(217).
