PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which makes a light emission control of a display such as an LED by using a common signal line, and enables a light emission control of a display specifying an installation position of a liquid container. SOLUTION: The recorder has at least: an installation section installing the liquid container which is provided with an information holder holding individual information of the liquid container, light emitters 101 (101K, 101C, 101M, and 101Y), and a controller for controlling light emission of a light emitter according to a signal for the individual information inputted from a contact and to the individual information held by the information holder; a light receivers 210 receiving light from the light emitters of the liquid container; and a light intensity varying means varying light intensity received by the light receivers according to installation positions of the plurality of liquid containers.
