PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for attaching an electronic component which can connect the electronic component always in the right direction. SOLUTION: The socket for attaching the electronic component is provided with a socket housing 5 with an electronic component storage 4 which is surrounded by the periphery walls 3 rising from four sides of a rectangular bottom plate 2; and a plurality of socket side engagements 9 installed in a plurality of positions on periphery walls 3, and projecting inside the electronic component storage 4, and provided with elastic fixing pieces in which a fixed projection 9a on a tip is restrained to a bottom of each restraining recession on the periphery wall of the electronic component 6. The electronic component is retained inside the electronic component storage 4 by these socket side engagements 9. A plurality of the socket side engagements 9 are installed lopsidedly to both end sides with a plurality of them spaced from one another for one side 3d among the two facing sides 3b and 3d of the periphery wall 3 of the four sides 3a to 3d of the socket housing 5.
