PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio apparatus which allows the modulation system and the coding ratio to be adaptively changed, and adaptively changes also the pilot signal disposition to enhance the transmission efficiency. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a pilot signal disposition table 118, which associates pilot signal disposition information to every set of the modulation system and the coding ratio; a pilot signal disposition selector 117 for selecting the pilot signal disposition information, corresponding to a set of the adaptively changed modulation system and the coding ratio, by referring to the pilot signal disposition table; and a pilot signal inserter 103 for inserting a pilot signal, based on the pilot signal disposition information. In the pilot signal disposition table, the larger the pilot signal interval is for a higher coding ratio in a high-speed modulation system, and the narrower the lower coding ratio will be in a low-speed modulation system.
