A metal halide lamp is provided to minimize a blackening phenomenon of a discharge tube by applying an arc current to an electrode of a discharge tube. A metal halide lamp includes a socket coupling part(10) coupled with a socket, an external body(11) made of a glass material, an introduction line(12) arranged in a vertical direction within the socket coupling part, first and second supporters connected to the introduction line and fixed to an inner circumference of the external body, a discharge tube(20) having an electrode(21) coupled with ends of the first and second supporters. An insulating protection tube(30) is inserted into the first supporter. A connective terminal(40) is coupled with an external circumference of the insulating protection tube and is connected to the second supporter. An arc current is generated between the first supporter and the connective terminal when the first supporter and the connective terminal approach each other. The arc current is applied to the electrode of the discharge tube.
