<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elliptic polarizing plate whose thickness is suppressed to be small, is free of a defect such as peeling even under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, and can be formed by continuously sticking an optical anisotropic element formed of a liquid crystal layer having a fixed homeotropic alignment structure and a polarizing element together in long-sized film form, a manufacturing method therefor, and a liquid crystal display device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The elliptic polarizing plate has the polarizing element sandwiched between the optical anisotropic element formed of the liquid crystal aligned on an optically isotropic substrate and a light-transmissive protective film, and is also characterized in that the optical anisotropic element includes a homeotropic alignment liquid crystal layer formed by homeotropically aligning a liquid crystal composition having at least positive uniaxiality in a liquid crystal state and fixing the alignment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
