PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat slide device for a vehicle having a seat position detection means, generating no erroneous detection even when a detection part is located at the outside of a rail. SOLUTION: In this device, an upper rail 2 having an opened lower part, bent and formed into a substantial U-shape and fixed to a seat is slidably fitted in an opening part of a lower rail 1 having an opened upper part, bent and formed into a substantial U-shape and fixed to a floor of the vehicle, and a lock mechanism 6 for fixing the upper rail 2 to a lock plate 10 of the lower rail 1 is provided. A proximity sensor 30 for detecting the position of the upper rail 2 is provided on the upper rail 2, while a detected surface 10d to be detected by the proximity sensor 30 is provided the lock plate 10. By making a non-detected surface side of the proximity sensor 30 abut on a distance setting part 10c, the distance setting part 10c for necessarily setting a detected distance a between a detection surface 30b and the detected surface 10d is formed integrally with the lock plate 10.
