PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a steel sheet for a soft can where a continuously cast slab is produced at high productivity, and further, a steel sheet for a soft can having excellent aging resistance and weldability, and whose heat refining degree at a T1 to T4 class is produced with the slab as the stock by a continuous annealing process. SOLUTION: In the production method, a steel slab having a composition comprising, by mass,≤0.0014% C, 0.01 to 0.1% Si, Mn: 12.50×S to 0.8 mass%,≤0.034% S, 0.01 to 0.10% Al, 0.0015 to 0.0070% N, Nb: 2.3×C to 15.48×C%, B: (0.769×N-0.00304)% and also 0.0003% to 0.60×N% is hot-rolled, is cold-rolled at a draft of 70 to 90%, and is then subjected to continuous annealing at a soaking temperature T: 700 to 780°C for a soaking time t: 20 to 90s so as to satisfy the relational inequality of 770≤t/3+T-14.8×loge(Nb)-32×B/N≤840.
