PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus which lights a lamp by a secondary battery at power failure, in which inspection can be made certainly even in a place where instantaneous power failure tends to occur or in a place where an inspection switch can be pushed easily. SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus comprises lighting means to light a lamp 2 by power supply from a secondary battery at power failure, an inspection means which makes the lamp 2 light forcibly for a prescribed inspection time or more by this lighting means and carries out inspection of the secondary battery 1, a monitoring means which monitors constantly a plurality of operation states including charging state of the secondary battery 1, and a counting means to count at least one of charging time and discharge time of the secondary battery 1. When the normal power supply restores power while the counting means is counting discharge time from the state in which a prescribed charging time has passed, the charging time after power restoration required for making the secondary battery have again the same quantity of electricity as the state in which the prescribed charging time has passed, is made variable according to the count value of discharge time.
