The invention concerns a shock absorber device for railway vehicle comprising an energy absorbing mechanism (50) through machining of a bearing structure (32). The energy absorbing mechanism (50) comprises a machinable bar (52) linked to the bearing structure (32) and a slide (56) mounted sliding along the machinable bar (52) for machining the bar (52), upon displacement of the slide (56) from its initial position to its final position. The structure (32) consists of a compressible element for absorbing energy along the direction of the bar (52), and the bar (52) is linked, from its front end (54), to a front end (36) of the bearing structure (32) for a concurrent displacement of the bar (52) and the front end (36) of the bearing structure (32) when the bearing structure (32) is compressed.
