<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system advantageous in mitigating partial functional deterioration of the components of a humidifier, and to provide the humidifier for the fuel cell, and its operating method. <P>SOLUTION: This fuel cell system has a fuel cell 1 and a humidifier 2 having passages 61, 62 in which a gas supplied to the fuel cell 1 and used for power generating reaction flows, and a humidifying element 27 to humidify the gas flowing in the passages 61, 62.
