PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a function element excelling in manufacturability and excelling in durability against disconnection failure; and to particularly provide improved organic electroluminescent element and inorganic electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: This function element is provided with a first electrode formed by arranging a plurality of stripe electrodes in parallel with one another on a substrate, and a second electrode arranged oppositely to the first electrode, and is composed by sandwiching a function layer between both the electrodes. The function element is characterized by having a flattening insulation layer arranged at longitudinal ends of the stripes of the first electrode for flattening the ends by filling the spaces between the stripes, and by insulating the function layer from the first electrode at the longitudinal ends.
