The device for changing the fastening function of a button-like fastening element is constructed so that the separated button (5) is placed on the pocket buttonhole by a staple-like bent wire. The two ends of the wire on both sides of the buttonhole are guided through the pocket flap (3) and through a small retaining plate, and then locked by bending over its points. A similar arrangement is formed on the front pocket section (2), whereby the mating retaining plates are brought together in an adhesion-type fastening.
