<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp features of changes of crowding and staying states and the crowding and staying states themselves by digitizing crowding states, and staying and staying time states of people at places where people gather, e.g. in various stores etc., with unique standards and continuously confirming the accumulation of their data along a time base. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of grasping the crowding and staying states of people etc., in a store etc., a camera 1 installed in the store picks up movements of customers in passages and around article shelves to measure the degree of crowding and the degree of staying of the customers in real time, and an image processor 3 performs image processing. When a data processor 5 processes the image obtained by the image processing, the image is virtually divided into a plurality of cells, and movements of people in those cells are image-processed and outputted as comparison results by using data generated for comparison with actual image processing.
