This invention provides a smart vortex generator (1) comprising a body (3), at least a part of which is formed of a shape memory alloy, disposed on the surface of an object such as a main wing in an airplane which, together with fluid flow, forms a boundary. In the body (3), upon exposure to a temperatur e rise or fall of a fluid, the shape memory alloy undergoes phase transformati on to a higher-temperature side stable phase, which is stable on a higher temperature side, and a lower-temperature side stable phase, which is stable on a lower temperature side. By taking advantage of this phenomenon, the bod y (3) can change its own form to a first form, which can suppress the separati on of flow by vortex generation, and a second form which can suppress turbulent flow. The smart vortex generator (1) can exhibit multidirectional properties depending upon a temperature change, can eliminate the need to externally supply energy, has a simple structure, is less likely to cause troubles, and can realize easy repair, maintenance, and mounting to existing wings.</SDOAB >
