PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead excellent in the balance between flexural strength and density. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a pencil lead by using at least a binder and a body filler as major materials, extruding the kneaded raw materials into a fine wire and subjecting the fine wire to a firing treatment, at least an acrylic acid polymer containing a (meth)acrylic acid monomer unit and having a weight average molecular weight of 50,000-4,000,000 is used as a material.
