The unit can be applied in printers with steel rider roller connected to earth when its electrostatic field exhibits a maximum near the contact between the inking roller 1 and the plate cylinder 3 carrying the ink. The two are separated by the web 2, and roller 1 comprises steel cylinder 5 with insulating layer 6 coated with the semiconductor layer 7. The latter has the embedded strips of conductors 8 separated by equal distances and connected to leads outside the semiconductor layer. A high voltage supply provides the formation of a strong electrostatic field, and the steel rider roller 4 ensures that the series connection of high-resistance strips of the semiconductor material between the conductors provide a selectable spread of the field. As a result, the field can be limited to the width of material being printed without fringe effects.
