METHOD FOR REQUESTING AND ALLOCATING OF UPSTREAM BANDWIDTH IN A MULTI-HOP RELAY BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method for requesting/allocating an uplink bandwidth in a multi-hop relay BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) communication system is provided to save and efficiently manages the radio resources between a relay station and a base station by enabling the relay station to integrate many uplink bandwidth allocation request messages, transmitted from mobile stations, into a single message and transmit it to the base station. A relay station receives uplink bandwidth allocation request messages from mobile stations for a preset time(401). The relay station detects the amount of each requested uplink bandwidth by using each uplink bandwidth allocation request message(403). The relay station sums up the amount of each requested uplink bandwidth and obtains the total amount of the requested uplink bandwidths(409). The relay station creates a new uplink bandwidth allocation message containing information about the total amount of the requested uplink bandwidths and transmits it to a base station(411).
