<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal member for a catalytic converter, in which displacement in installation position of a seal member is prevented to stabilize sealing performance over a long period of time, while avoiding significant increase in cost and deterioration in resilience of a whole seal member, and to provide a catalytic converter. <P>SOLUTION: The degree of reinforcement by organic binder or needle punching at upstream end part and at a downstream end part in an exhaust gas flow direction in the seal member 4 for a catalytic converter is higher than that in other areas. Therefore, while the displacement caused by insertion resistance or the like in insertion of the seal member in a metallic shell, elasticity of the seal member 4 is maintained to maintain high retaining force of the seal member 4 by the resilience in other areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
