PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for priming detection in starting a boiler enabling to shorten a start time of the boiler by conducting an appropriate water supply process depending on the operation condition of the boiler. SOLUTION: A feed-water pressure and feed-water flow rate at an inlet of the boiler 70 are detected by a feed-water pressure detecting means 10 and a feed-water flow rate detecting means 20. A feed-water time to the boiler 70 is measured by a feed-water time measuring means 30. On condition that a predetermined time passes from a time point when the feed-water pressure and feed-water flow rate at the inlet of the boiler 70 reach prescribed values, an air vent valve 40 provided on the boiler 70 is opened, and priming detection is conducted by operating the priming detector 50 provided on an outlet side of the air vent valve 40 to shorten a transition time to a next process.
