COLUMN FOR USE IN CHROMATOGRAPHY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, in relation to liquid chromatography instrumentation and solvent delivery systems, a method and apparatus for increasing the loading capacity of a chromatography column by diluting a mobile phase at the head of the column. SOLUTION: The column for use in chromatography includes: a chromatographic sorbent bed 42; a common inlet fluid path 50 located upstream of the sorbent bed 42; a first inlet fluid connection port 48 arranged so as to be connected to the common inlet fluid path 50; and a second inlet fluid connection port 49 arranged so as to be connected to the common inlet fluid path 50. The common inlet fluid path 50 includes a fluid mixing element 51 for forming a mobile phase by mixing a first mobile phase delivered from the first inlet fluid connection port 48 with a second mobile phase delivered from the second inlet fluid connection port 49.
