<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing charcoal by which not only carbon yield but also specific surface area and a specified pore size can be increased by iodizing and carbonizing wood. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing charcoal includes iodizing and carbonizing an organic substance, wherein the organic substance is preferably wood, the iodizing is preferably carried out by bringing iodine vapor into contact with the organic substance or heating a container containing the organic substance and iodine, a preferred iodizing temperature is in a range from 50°C to a decomposition temperature of wood, and the carbonizing is preferably carried out by heating in an atmosphere of an inert gas or in vacuo. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
