PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reactive emulsifier for emulsion polymerization, comprising a compound free from a polyoxyalkylene chain as a hydrophilic group, making emulsion polymerization stability high, and giving a polymer and its film with markedly improved various properties including water resistance, adhesion, heat resistance and weatherability. SOLUTION: The emulsifier comprises a compound of the general formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrocarbon group; R<SP>2</SP>is H or methyl; A is an oxygen atom or NH; n is 1-200; and X<SB>1</SB>and X<SB>2</SB>are each H, an anionic hydrophilic group or hydrocarbon group).
