NON-AQUEOUS ELECTROLYTE AND SECONDARY BATTERY COMPRISING THE SAME

A non-aqueous electrolyte is provided to reduce electric conductivity of the electrolyte and to improve the safety of a battery by inducing the polymerization of a non-aqueous cyclic solvent by a catalyst activated when a battery is exposed to high temperature or overcharge. The non-aqueous electrolyte comprises a non-aqueous cyclic solvent, a polymerization catalyst which is activated according to temperature or voltage to induce the polymerization of the non-aqueous cyclic solvent, and an electrolyte salt. The polymerization catalyst is activated at 90-180 deg.C or a voltage of 4.4V or higher, and is contained in an amount of 0.01-3wt% based on the total weight of the non-aqueous electrolyte.
