The damper (1) has a flow connector (55) controlled by an axially movable switching ring in dependence of a piston rod (7) movement. A bypass channel is provided hydraulically parallel to the flow connector and comprises a connecting opening (77) for the flow connector. The opening is provided in front of one of blocking surfaces. A distributing device has a connector for a flow direction of a damping medium during a piston rod inward movement and another connector for a flow direction of the medium during a piston rod outward movement.
