<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a strength by reducing the length of a rack in an open/ close device of a rear gate for a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The rear gate 5 is opened and closed by a drive unit 11 installed on a body side. The drive unit 11 comprises a reversibly rotatable motor 17, a gear box 18 having a pinion 23 for outputting the rotation of the motor 17 after speed reduction pivotally mounted thereon, and a rack 29 reciprocatingly moved by the rotation of the pinion 23 in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction of a hinge shaft 9 and having one end part connected to the rear gate 5. The motor 17 is connected to the other end side of the gear box 18 opposite to one end side thereof facing the rear gate 5 side, an output gear 27 rotated by the pinion 23 is pivotally mounted on the gear box 18 at a position near the one end, and the rack 29 is meshed with the output gear 27. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
