<p>The reformer (1) has a diffusion unit (4), which borders an exhaust gas inflow-chamber (8) and a reformate gas collecting chamber and is provided as a diffusion membrane. An exhaust gas inflow-opening provided in the chamber (8) is connected with an exhaust gas device via an exhaust gas supply line (11). A reformate gas opening provided in the reformate chamber is linked with an intake system via a reformate-gas supply line, where a low pressure is obtained in a hot reformer such that the obtained reformate gas is guided as a secondary fuel to an internal combustion engine.</p>
