PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a softening agent for paper which is capable of giving a paper having excellent softness and sufficient sizing property. SOLUTION: The softening agent for paper contains an acid salt of a specific condensation product of an amide amine compound and urea, and a specific tertiary amine compound.
