PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a capacity of a memory to be used when compressing an image data. SOLUTION: The image data processed for half tone are made into units of block (band unit), which are transferred to a memory 152 as they are. The image data that have been subjected to a half tone process are subjected to image compression in band unit at an image compressor 711. The data that have been compressed in band unit are transferred to a memory 121. For the compression rate compressed in band unit is 1 or higher, a non-compressed data stored in the memory 152 are transferred to the memory 121, which is written over the compressed data. Further, the compression rate of a page (the entire data of image) stored in the memory 121 is calculated. If a page compression rate exceeds 1/4, a thinning process is applied.
