METHOD FOR PRODUCING LIQUID ABSORBING RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing liquid absorbing resin micro-particles having excellent liquid absorbency even for a salt-containing solution at a high concentration such as seawater or a calcium chloride deliquescent aqueous solution, controlling median diameter based on volume to a particle diameter within the range of 0.5-50μm and having an extremely narrow particle diameter distribution without causing mutual aggregation of primary particles. SOLUTION: The method for producing the liquid absorbing resin is carried out as follows. A hydrophobic organic solvent containing a surfactant and an aqueous solution containing a monomer mixture containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a sulfonic acid group or an alkyl metal salt thereof and a radical polymerization initiator are charged into a polymerization tank having a stirrer and reversed phase suspension polymerization is carried out while stirring the suspension with the stirrer to produce the liquid absorbing resin. The average particle diameter of the liquid absorbing resin particles is controlled by using a multi-axial stirrer having low-speed stirring blades and high-speed stirring blades as the stirrer.
