PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a frictional resistance by reducing the contact area of a thrust receiving face of a support frame brought into contact with an oscillating scroll when a compression element is lightly loaded in a scroll compressor. SOLUTION: In this scroll compressor, an electric element and a compression element are stored and arranged in a container body. A recess 8d is formed in the thrust receiving face 8c of an upper support frame 8 brought into contact with the oscillating scroll 3b of the compression element, and a load control means 12 is fitted into the recess 8d. The load control means 12 comprises a spring 12a, a ball receiving member 12b, and a spherical body 12c rotatably held on the ball receiving body 12b. When a light load is applied to the compression element, the spherical body 12c of the load control means 12 is projected from the recess 8d. Since the contact area of the oscillating scroll 3b against the thrust receiving face 8c is reduced, the frictional resistance can be reduced. When a heavy load is applied to the compression element, the spherical body 12c is recessed into the recess 8d, and the oscillating scroll 3b is brought into contact with the thrust receiving face 8c.
