PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of miniaturizing an automatic document feeder for conveying a document for double-side reading, avoiding any contact with the discharged document, and guiding the document to a desired conveying path with a simple and inexpensive configuration at the position where a switch-back path and a bypass merge a document feeding path. SOLUTION: An ADF 3 conveys a document feeding path 32 for connecting a paper feed tray 30 to a paper discharge tray 31, a switch-back path 39 connected to the merging position 38 of the document feeding path 32, a bypass 44 which is branched from the branching position 45 of the document feeding path 32 and connected to the merging position 38, a guide flap 46 to be changed into the first guide posture and the second guide posture at the merging position 38, and a guide flap 47 to be changed into the third guide posture and the fourth guide posture at the merging position 38.
