PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode support having sufficient strength capable of accurately positioning an electrode part, and to provide a metal vapor discharge lamp using the same, and a method of manufacturing the electrode support. SOLUTION: The electrode support 16 for supporting the electrodes and supplying electricity, inserted into respective thin tube parts formed at both end parts of a light emitting tube body of the metal vapor discharge lamp, is formed by butting, welding and integrating an electrode side rod-shaped member 28 having high halogen resistant property and an external part connection side rod-shaped part 30 having a thermal expansion coefficient nearly same as that of the light emitting tube. A melted substance flow-in part 38, in which melted substance from the external part connection side rod-shaped part 30 flows in at welding, is formed at a neighboring area of the welding part of the electrode side rod-shaped member 28 and the external part connection side rod-shaped part 30. Solidified melted substance 40 is fitted in the melted substance flow-in part 38. The maximum diameter of the electrode side rod-shaped member 28 and that of the external part connection side rod-shaped part 30 are nearly same with each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
