PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correction device and an error correction method for a magnetic or optical encoder for detecting a rotation angle. SOLUTION: An error in the encoder of the present invention is detected using a precise encoder for detecting the error when manufactured. A frequency component is detected in the detected error by FFT to be stored in a storage device. When the encoder is used, the error is read in from the storage device to find an error due to an angle by inverted FFT, and the error is corrected sequentially to correct the error of the encoder inexpensively and precisely.
