The present invention relates to a method for service connection setup and service resume protection in optical network, the optical network comprising: a transmission plane system constituted by a plurality of transmission network elements, a control plane system constituted by a plurality of control nodes ; when a service request is received by the control node, determining a link connection and subnet connection by means of the control node, and setting up a normal connection supporting service signal transmission, and starting a timer to be responsible for setting up a virtual connection supporting the service ; after expiring of the timer, setting up a virtual connection for a service request required to setting up the virtual connection ; when there is a service fault occurred, the setup virtual connection or dynamic rerouting resume service are used effectively, and responsing to some services as required alter service faults disappeared. At the same time, the service layer connection supporting client layer connection, service layer, protection connection and service layer virtual connection are also set up dynamically according with the requirement of the client layer in optical network. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
