PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which suppresses the degradation of image quality by reducing load variance during passage of a thick paper in a secondary transfer part and prevents slip of an intermediate transfer belt, which occurs then, and improves durability of the intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a variable means 9 which changes the belt entrance angle to the secondary transfer part formed by a secondary transfer roller 8 provided facing one of a plurality of support rollers 5, 6, and 7 through an image carrier belt 4 which is supported by the support rollers 5, 6, and 7 and is rotated. The variable means 9 presses against the rear face of the image carrier belt 4, and the front end of a carried transfer paper P is abutted against a portion close to a position that faces a pressing portion 12a of the variable means 9 and then enters the transfer part.
