PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect a scratch of a disk while performing seek operation safely in a load/unload region. SOLUTION: Servo data are written in the load/unload region up to the outermost peripheral cylinder [Max]104. A limit region being adjacent to an inner peripheral side is set for the most outer peripheral cylinder [Max]. When each servo data included in the limit region is used, position control of a head-slider can be performed, but data cannot be recorded and reproduced. A position of a recording head 37 when a reproducing head 35 is positioned to the limit region becomes the inside of the outermost peripheral cylinder [Max]. Since the limit region exists, when test data are recorded from the inner peripheral side to the outer peripheral side, the test data are never written outside the outermost peripheral cylinder [Max]. Therefore, when the test data are reproduced for inspecting a scratch, as the reproducing head is never positioned outside the outermost peripheral cylinder [Max], runaway is not caused in a head supporting mechanism.
