PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove routing information assumed to be comparatively less important to use as route guide information from registered road information. SOLUTION: This road data updating device has a map data memory unit 3, a travel route recognition unit 7, and a controller 10 to control the updating of the road data stored in the map data memory section according to the travel route recognized in the travel route recognition unit 7. The controller 10 has a road discrimination unit 11 to check whether the route on which a vehicle currently traveling is not stored in the map data memory unit 3 and whether it is the road for the both-way traffic of the vehicle, and a memory controller 12 to store the route as the new road data in map data memory unit 3 if discriminated to be the road for the traffic but not to store it in the map data memory unit 3 if discriminated not.
