PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new composition for water detection and replacing blue gel, and to provide an indicator for water detection constituted through the use of the composition for water detection. SOLUTION: The composition for water detection includes a porphyrin complex and at least one type of inorganic acid salt selected from among an alkali metal, an alkali earth metal, Al, and Fe as active constituents. In the case of a composition for water detection, having a phosphorus porphyrin complex ([P(V)TPP(OH)<SB>2</SB>]CL or [P(V)TPP(CL)<SB>2</SB>]CL), in which two axial ligands have become a hydroxy group or halogen (chlorine) and CaCl<SB>2</SB>as active constituents, gradual color changes where the composition for water detection turns green at a relative humidity of 20%, brown or pinkish green at relative humidity of 50%, and brown or pink at a relative humidity of 90% are confirmed. When the composition for water detection is dried again at 100°C, the composition for water detection returns to green, and when moisture absorptivity test is conducted again, gradual color development that depends on the relative humidity, similar to the first color changes is confirmed, and it is confirmed that the composition for water detection has reversibility.
