A remote control apparatus of an electronic instrument and a method thereof are provided to selectively receive infrared signal sections only, by using supersonic waves delivered together with infrared signals, thereby preventing an incorrect operation of an electronic instrument. A control block of a remote controller checks whether an operation signal corresponding to a user's operation is inputted from an operation block in idle mode(202,204). If so, a supersonic signal indicative of an infrared signal section only is generated and wirelessly delivered(206). Wirelessly delivered infrared and supersonic signals are received, respectively(208). A switching unit is turned on to operate a relay, so that power is supplied to an infrared receiving block(210-214).
