PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve conventional visualization designs resulting in a significant wasted space. SOLUTION: Methods for laying out graphical icons, at least determines one icon, includes steps of: assigning the icon to a row which does not include N or more icons; determining a first attribute associated with at least one icon; assigning the icon to a row based on a second attribute, the icon is assigned to be grouped based on the first attribute; determining a plurality of groups; arranging icons in each group in continuous parts of each row, separating each part of each row by inter-group indicators; laying out icons associated with each row in a display space sufficient for including N+k icons for k which is not a negative number and arranging the icons in the display space.
