<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide apparatus and a method of supplying a power signal and/or a control signal to a movable removal-and-insertion device in a data storage apparatus without interruption. <P>SOLUTION: A cartridge removal-and-insertion device 36 in a data storage apparatus is designed for searching a cartridge 14 from a storage rack 16 in the apparatus and conveying the cartridge to a particular position. The device 36 includes two conductive engagement members 174, 184, and moves by being guided to grooves 32, 34 on a surface of a frame assembly 26. To supply power to the device 36 and/or transmit a control signal to the device 36, current flows to the cartridge removal-and-insertion device 36 through the engagement members 174, 184 and conductive track members 201, 203 that are fixed in the grooves 23, 34 in the frame assembly 26, and engaged with the engagement members.
