This invention provides novel cDNAs encoding cell growth and viability regulators. The invention also provides methods of using the cDNAs to screen for compounds that modulate cell growth and viability. The methods comprise first screening test compounds for modulators of a cell growth and viability regulator that is encoded by the cDNAs, and then further screening the identified modulating agents for modulators of cell growth and viability. The invention further provides methods and pharmaceutical compositions for treating diseases and conditions (e.g., tumors) associated with abnormal cellular proliferation.
