PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method by which smoothness, coating film thickness uniformity can be obtained when a coating liquid is applied onto a continuously conveyed supporting body by an ink jet system where the coating liquid is ejected from a nozzle of an ink channel as a liquid drop to form a coating film surface. SOLUTION: A coating apparatus, which uses an ink-jet head for ejecting the coating liquid where solid contents are dissolved or dispersed from a nozzle outlet as a liquid drop, is used and the coating liquid is applied onto a belt-like plastic film supporting body which is supported by a supporting means and is continuously conveyed to form the coating film surface. In this coating method, surface smoothness in a width direction of the belt-like plastic film supporting body at least at a position where the liquid drop reaches is made to be≤100% of wet film thickness.
