The present invention relates to selective agonists or ligands of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma (PPAR alpha and gamma) and their use for the manufacture of medicaments for human or veterinary use for the prevention or treatment of forms of oesophago-gastro­duodenal inflammation. Selective PPAR alpha and gamma agonists particularly suitable for the treatment of gastritis and relapses in a monotherapy regimen are selected from fibrates and glitazones.
