The method involves providing an electronic circuit in a portable data medium e.g. smart card, and implementing several applications in the electronic circuit. Time information is provided by one of the several applications of the portable data medium and the time information is transferred to another application of the portable data medium. The time information is determined on the basis of an initial value. An independent claim is also included for a portable data medium with an electronic circuit.
