PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate control of even an optical disk formed with an LPP, such as a DVD-R and a DVD-RW, by removing the influence of fluctuation in return light quantity resulting from the existence of the LPP. SOLUTION: This information recording device is provided with a pickup for irradiating a disk with the prepit formed with the recording light, and outputting data of the return light quantity; a period determination circuit for determining a data acquisition period when the return light is not influenced by the prepit; a sample hold circuit for acquiring the data of the return light quantity in the data acquisition period; and a microcomputer for controlling recording power based on the data of the return light quantity. Within the data acquisition period when the return light is not influenced by the prepit, the microcomputer acquires the data of return light quantity, and controls the recording power based on it. The sample/hold circuit detects pit levels etc. in a recording mark period from 9T-11T which cannot be easily influenced by the LPP.
