A drum type washing machine comprising a water tank (10), a rotary tank (14) disposed in the water tank (10) and driven for rotation around a horizontal axis, a suspension (11) which elastically supports the water tank (10), and auxiliary baffles (23) which is disposed on the inner surface of the peripheral wall of the rotary tank (14) so that they are close to one of the axial end plates of the rotary tank (14) and away from the other and which extends along the axial direction of the rotary tank (14). The auxiliary baffles (23) are arranged to move the washing in the rotary tank (14) toward the vicinity of the center of gravity of the vibration-system members which impose loads on the suspension (11).
